If you visit any Mars Hill Church, you’ll notice an army of volunteers serving on any given Sunday. Each team and each person works together to create a welcoming atmosphere by limiting distractions so that the Jesus can be proclaimed clearly. This is what service means at Mars Hill, and it will be part of the DNA of this church up on the Plateau.
Why do we serve?
- We love Jesus. Jesus humbled himself to come serve us, and by serving others, we get to participate in worship to the Greatest Servant.
- It’s biblical. Scripture tells us to contribute to the needs of the saints and to show hospitality (Romans 12:13).
- Serving is sacrificial. It is not always easy or convenient, but sacrificing our time, gifts, and talents to Jesus is an act of worship.
What does serving look like?
Not only do we want to serve those out in our community, but we also want to serve those coming into our churches every Sunday. If you’ve ever seen an usher help latecomers find a seat, men on the security team keeping our kids safe, or people teaching children about Jesus—that’s all service.
